Activation Blog #3 - Getting Ready for Practice, Play, Workout
Activation is a word that is relatively new in the fitness and performance world, it used to be called simply - warm-up. Maybe a better description would be Movement Preparation. In every professional, college, Olympic and even high school sport, the strength coaches and trainers have specific "activation/movement preparation" they have the players perform before workout, practice or play/event. This ensures the body is as ready as possible to perform their particular sport or event. At the highest levels, special care is taken to make sure the movement preparation fits the sport or event. In golf, activating the small muscles around the spine, shoulders, hips and pelvis is the key to creating balance and reducing injury around these important centers of rotation. What I see wherever I play is golfers using stretching exercises prior to golf that actually have a negative effect on the golf swing. We want for the small rotators and stabilizers around our joints to be as "active and excited" as possible, to promote both performance and reduce the chance of strain, pain and injury. Performed on a car window, golf cart windshield, range marker sign, ball dispenser wall, etc, the ROTEX handheld device activates the key muscles in the golf swing for a more restriction-free and repeating swing, while getting the body ready for maximum rotational performance.
